Getting Your Adult Children to Listen to You

Slide #1: Many well-meaning in-laws are frustrated when married children ignore their advice.

Slide #2: They watch as their grown kids make big mistakes that could be avoided.

Slide #3: When their advice is rebuffed they grow resentful (particularly toward their in-law daughter or son).

Slide #4: The answer is to approach your grown children with genuine humility.

Slide #5: Instead of criticizing their behavior or decisions tell them your own story.

Slide #6: Share honestly your own mistakes, failures, and unwise decisions.

Slide #7: Let your authenticity, vulnerability, and transparency open the door to their heart.

Slide #8: Don't pull the trigger -- let God make the final application to their lives.

Slide #9: "But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." James 4:6
