Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
-Psalm 119:97
While Pastor Rollins was visiting Mrs. Brown, he asked if she had been regularly reading her Bible. "I have been, Reverend," Mrs. Brown quickly replied. "I read the Word whenever I get the chance." At that, her minister asked if he could read something to her from her own Bible. Hesitantly, the woman got up and returned with a Bible. As the pastor took the Bible, a pair of reading glasses fell out. Mrs. Brown blurted in surprise, "So that’s where those glasses have been; I’ve been looking for them for over two years!" (Daily Devotions)
Has your Bible been a close friend as of late ... or simply a stranger? Don’t let your Bible gather dust. As spiritual food, you need it every day. Crack open the Word today. You might be surprised what you might find in it!
Point of Connection: The Bible is real "soul" food.

Burnt Gifts On The Altar
1The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the meeting tent, saying, 2" Speak to the people of Israel. Tell them, ' When any of you bring a gift in worship to the Lord, bring your gift of animals from the herd or the flock. 3If his gift is a burnt gift from the cattle, he should bring a male that is perfect. He should give it at the door of the meeting tent, so he will be pleasing to the Lord. 4He will lay his hand on the head of the burnt gift and it will be received to take away his sins. 5He will kill the young bull before the Lord. Then Aaron' s sons, the religious leaders, will take the blood and put it around on the altar that is at the door of the meeting tent. 6He will skin the burnt gift and cut it into pieces. 7The sons of Aaron the religious leader will put fire on the altar and lay wood on the fire. 8Then Aaron' s sons, the religious leaders, will lay the pieces, the head and the fat on the wood that is on the altar fire. 9Bu...[more details]

Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ…,
-Romans 13:14
Ben Kingsley spent months in India preparing for his lead role in the movie Gandhi. He even learned to spin cotton thread on a wooden wheel while holding conversations as Gandhi did. The physical resemblance between Gandhi and Kingsley was startling. After filming a scene, an elderly man knelt to touch his feet. Embarrassed, Kingsley explained that he was merely an actor playing Gandhi. "We know," replied the villager, "but through you he will surely live again." (Billy D. Strayhorn)
Do you want others to see Jesus? Then start playing His role. God has placed the Spirit of Christ in you and it’s your turn to play His part. Don’t be timid about clothing yourself with Christ. Central Casting knows what He’s doing!
Point of Connection: Start by doing what’s necessary, then what’s possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible. (St. Francis of Assisi)

Leviticus 5
1' If a person sins by saying nothing when he is told in court to tell what he knows or what he has seen, he will become guilty. 2If a person touches anything that is unclean, the dead body of a wild animal, or of cattle, or of anything that moves on the earth that is unclean, even without knowing it, then he will be unclean and will be guilty. 3Or if he touches a human who is unclean for whatever reason, without knowing it, when he learns about it, he will be guilty. 4If a person without thinking swears he will do something, whether bad or good, any foolish promise a person may swear, when he learns about it, he will be guilty. 5When a person is guilty in any of these, he should tell of the sin he has done. 6He should bring his guilt gift to the Lord for the sin he has done, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat, for a sin gift. And the religious leader will pay the price for him for his sin.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
-Psalm 103:13-14
After discovering how to clone humans, two scientists challenged God: "We don't need you anymore," they said. "We can make life by ourselves now." "Okay," God replied, "Let's have a contest to see who can make a human being." "You’re on!" said the scientists. "We’ll do it like you did in the beginning." Then they began gathering dirt to begin to form a person. God’s voice boomed from heaven: "Hold it right there. Get your own dirt!" (J. Richard Love)
Has life been beating you into the ground? Turn to God and ask Him for his aid. As your Creator and Father, the Lord knows just what you need. You can really trust Him. He’s got the dirt on you!

Aaron And His Sons Set Apart For Their Work
1The Lord said to Moses, 2" Take Aaron and his sons, and the clothing, the oil for holy use, the bull for the sin gift, the two rams and the basket of bread without yeast. 3And gather together all the people at the door of the meeting tent." 4So Moses did just as the Lord told him. The people were gathered together at the door of the meeting tent. 5Moses said to the people, " This is what the Lord has said to do."
6Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water. 7He dressed him with the coat, the belt, the long piece of clothing, and the linen vest. He tied the well-made rope of the linen vest, to keep his clothing in place. 8Then he put the breast-piece on him. And he put the Urim and the Thummim into the breast-piece. 9He put the head covering on his head. And on the front of it he put the gold plate, the holy crown, just as the Lord had told Moses.

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
-John 12:26
When Dr. Gardner Taylor was a young minister during the Depression, he was assigned a rural black congregation in Louisiana. The small church had just a single light bulb hanging down from the ceiling. One evening Rev. Taylor was preaching when the power went out. The building went pitch black, and the young minister didn’t know what to do. He stumbled around until one of the deacons cried out, "Preach on, preacher! We can still see Jesus in the dark!" (Timothy George)
Have you been in the dark lately? Don’t let your confusion get you down. Jesus was sent by God to illuminate your life. There’s no need to stumble about in the gloom. Turn to Jesus and watch the lights go on!

Foods That Could Be Eaten
1The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 2" Say to the people of Israel, ' These are the living things which you may eat among all the animals on the earth. 3You may eat any animal that has hard and divided feet and chews its food again. 4But among those which chew their food again or have feet that are hard and divided, do not eat the camel. Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.
-Psalm 68:19
Pastor Smith was moving his books upstairs in the parsonage. His little boy wanted to help, so Pastor Smith told him to get an armful and bring them upstairs. When the father came back, he met his young son at the foot of the stairs tugging away at the biggest book in the library. Frustrated by the massive tome, the child sat down and cried. His father bent over and took him in his arms, book and all, and carried the tyke and his load upstairs. (Dwight L. Moody)
Are you struggling with a burden too heavy to bear? Maybe you are carrying too much alone. Let God take you and your problems in His arms today. You’ll soon find yourself at the top of the stairs when you get a lift from the Lord!

Laws About Skin Diseases

If the sick person has been healed of the bad skin disease, 4the religious leader must have two live clean birds, cedar wood, a red string and hyssop brought for the one who is to be made clean. 5The religious leader will have one of the birds killed in a clay pot over flowing water. 6Then he will take the living bird with the cedar wood, the red string and the hyssop. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
-Psalm 66:18
During a storm on August 14, 2003, a tree limb fell on a sagging electric line near Cleveland, Ohio. The failure of this single transmission line caused a utility company in southern Ohio to overload and seal itself off from the now infamous power grid. As a result, Cleveland began sucking an unsustainable amount of electricity from Michigan and Ontario. This triggered a domino-like effect knocking out more transmission lines and generating plants until it blackened New York City. As the result of one fallen line, the entire Northeast experienced history’s largest power shutdown. (Robert Daneker)
Has your prayer life been in a blackout? Maybe sin has cut off your circuit to God? Even one cherished trespass, no matter how small, can bring the whole grid down! Confess and forsake that which is evil. You’ll be glowing again when the power’s back on!

Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.
-1John 3:17 KJV
Six people were trapped by a blizzard in a cabin. Each possessed a stick of wood needed for the dying fire. One held his piece back because of another’s race. Another refused to share because of another’s religion. Another wouldn’t give because of another’s wealth. Each had a reason not to share. Tragically, all six were found dead with their wood frozen in their hands. "They didn't die from the cold without. They died from the cold within." (James Kinney, The Cold Within)
Has your church been feeling cold lately? You can help break the chill. God has given you the gift of love to share with those around you. Don’t freeze others out. Love them and kindle the fire within.

My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
-Psalm 38:4
In the Alleghenies Mountains, a hunter mistakenly shot a low-flying eagle. Usually these birds of prey soar far above the hunter’s range. When the hunter examined the raptor, he discovered one of the claws held firmly a strong steel trap and a five-foot chain attached! The trap and the chain were not heavy enough to keep the eagle from flying, but the weight brought it down within range of the rifle. (Derl G. Keefer)

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
-Psalm 4:8
According to International Sleep Product, high quality mattresses are "hot" in the U.S. as cash-rich baby boomers flock to specialty stores to get the top in comfort for their aging bodies. Citing the ultimate excuse for luxury consumption, (health concerns, sleep deprivation!), about 17% of current mattress buyers now spend $1,000 to $2,000 on mattress and box-spring sets. The price goes up from there as people spend even more for adjustable sleep number beds! (Trendwatching.com)

Thousands of Americans are developing their "core strength" as they try the newest fitness craze, Pilates. Developed in the early 20th century, the program focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and strengthen the deep torso muscles, which help alleviate and prevent back pain. (Wikipedia)
Would you like to get back in shape spiritually? Then consider memorizing the Word of God and meditating on it. It’s one spiritual exercise that really works your core. Hide the word in your heart and you’ll have plenty of "spine" to stand up to sin!

Although Abraham Lincoln was a man of deep moral conviction, he did not have a personal faith in Christ. The death of his favorite son, Willie, was the catalyst God used to bring Lincoln to faith. While the boy lay dying, Willie’s nurse told the President about eternal life through faith in Christ. Lincoln listened but did not respond. A few days later while surveying the bloody battlefield of Gettysburg, he wrote, "When I buried my son that was the severest trial of my life. I was not a Christian. A troubled relationship generates unhealthy stress which creates arterial inflammation, a precursor to hardening of the arteries. In a study of 9,011 British civil servants, most of them married, those with the worst close relationships were 34% more likely to have heart attacks or other heart trouble during 12 years of follow-up than those with good relationships. Do not give the devil an opportunity.

Carson was vacationing in South Africa at a resort in Kruger National Park. As he was preparing for a morning photo safari, the tour guide asked him if he completely closed the window on his room. Monkeys were getting into rooms and ransacking them, looking for food or shiny objects. Carson tried to explain that it was only opened a crack. The guide replied, "Monkeys have four hands and a brain. They can pry open a small crack in the pane and help themselves to your room!" (Carson Pue)

Numbers 11
The Children Of Israel Complain
1Now the people complained about their troubles in the hearing of the Lord. When the Lord heard it, His anger burned. The fire of the Lord burned among them, and destroyed some around the outer parts of the tents. 2Then the people cried to Moses and he prayed to the Lord, and the fire went out. 3So the name of that place was called Taberah, because the fire of the Lord burned among them.
4The mixed group of people among them had strong desires. The people of Israel cried again and said, " Who will give us meat to eat? 5We remember all the fish we could eat free in Egypt, and all the fruit and vegetables and spices. 6But now our strength is gone. There is nothing at all to look at except this bread from heaven." 7Now the bread from heaven was like coriander seed, and it looked like bdellium. 8The people would go and gather it and beat it between stones. They boiled it in a pot or made bread with it. It tasted like bread made with oil. 9...[more details]

Missionary David Livingstone met a tribal chief of a large area in Central Africa in the 19th century. The powerful leader offered to exchange gifts with Livingstone. Livingstone spread his few possessions on the ground. To his dismay, the chief took Livingstone’s goat, an animal whose milk the missionary’s health depended upon. In return, the chief gave him a carved walking stick. Livingstone began to gripe to God about the trade when a native explained, "That’s not a walking cane. It’s the king’s scepter. With it you can enter every village in our country to preach!" (Robert Lewis)

The People Complain
1Then all the people cried out with a loud voice, and they cried that night. 2All the people of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, " If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this desert! 3Why is the Lord bringing us into this land to be killed by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be taken away. Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?" 4So they said to one another, " Let us choose a leader and return to Egypt."
5Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces in front of all the gathering of the people of Israel. 6And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh tore their clothes. They were among those who had spied out the land. 7They said to all the people of Israel, " The land we passed through to spy out is a very good land. 8If the Lord is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us. Korah Works Against Moses
1Now Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, caused trouble. 2They came in front of Moses, together with some of the sons of Israel. They had chosen 250 leaders of the people of Israel, well-known men. 3They all gathered together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, " You have gone too far! For all the people are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. So why do you honor yourselves more than the people of the Lord?"
4When Moses heard this, he bowed to the ground. 5He said to Korah and all who were with him, " Tomorrow morning the Lord will show who is His, and who is holy. He will have him come near to Him. The president of a large company had to go overseas suddenly. He wrote a detailed letter of orders back to his staff. When he returned they had a big party to welcome him back. He was thrilled. Then he asked if they got his letter. One of the VP’s stood up and quoted page 3, paragraph 7. Another person quoted page 7, paragraph 2. The boss was overwhelmed; they had memorized the whole letter! Then the CEO asked, "How are you doing on the project?" The Executive Vice-President sadly replied, "Boss, we are still studying the letter." (S. Wemp)

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts.
-Proverbs 18:8
People are strongly influenced by gossip about others, even when it contradicts what they see with their own eyes. A new study by the Max-Planck Institute in Germany reveals individuals sometimes place so much stock in gossip that they accept it as true even if their own observations and experiences suggest otherwise. Researchers concluded that gossip has a strong manipulative potential and warn that it could be used by cheaters to change the reputation of others or even change their own. (MSNBC)
Have you been dining on too much gossip lately? Watch out! Those tasty morsels may be shaping your attitudes more than you think. Gossip is powerful and potentially harmful. Turn away from those juicy conversations. It’s one diet you’ll be glad you started!
