Daily Connection
There before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. Revelations 7:9

Retired pastor Sam Duree is helping to support a seminary in Moscow by selling birdhouses. Duree spends four hours a day building them from discarded fences and then sells them at craft shows. Duree has built 3,000 birdhouses, raising $85,000 for Russia United Theological Seminary. "We have to realize we're part of a global community, and we have a global ministry," Duree says. "The good Lord has plans for us, and I'm doing what I can to carry them out." (Preaching Today)

What are you doing to bring God's light to the nations? Your prayers and contributions to global ministries are needed. One day, people from every tribe, tongue and nation will stand before the Lord, but not unless they hear the gospel. So get involved. Missions are not just for the birds!

Job 1-4
Job 1
Satan Tests Job
1There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. That man was without blame. He was right and good, he feared God, and turned away from sin.
2Seven sons and three daughters were born to him.

3He had 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 1,000 oxen, 500 female donkeys, and many servants. He was the greatest of all the men of the east.

4His sons used to go and make a special supper in each one's house on a special day. And they would send for their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

5When the days of their special supper were over, Job would get up early in the morning and send for them. Then he would give burnt gifts for each of them so that they would be pure. For Job said, 'It might be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.' Job always did this.

6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to show themselves before the Lord. Satan came with them also.

7And the Lord said to Satan, 'Where have you...[more details]

So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man. Acts 24:16

A man took his young son with him to help steal corn from his neighbor's field. Before pilfering the grain, the man looked to his right and then his left. Not seeing anyone, he started to fill his bag. Suddenly his son yelled, "Daddy, there's one way you haven't looked yet!" Panicking, the man looked quickly around himself again. "No, Dad," called the boy. "You haven't looked up!" The conscience-stricken man took his son by the hand and returned home without any of the corn. (Elbourne's Illustrations)

Are you being tempted to sin? Stay true to your conscience. God's Spirit uses it as a guidance system to keep you from doing what's wrong. The next time you feel the impulse to sin, don't forget to look up!

Point of Connection: A man's conscience, like a warning line on the highway, tells him what he shouldn't do - but it does not keep him from doing it. (Frank Clark)

Job 5-7
Job 5
Eliphaz Keeps On Talking
1'Call now. Is there anyone who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
2To be bitter kills the foolish man, and jeal ousy kills the child.

3I have seen the fool taking root, but right away his house was cursed.

4His sons are far from being safe. They are destroyed in the gate, and there is no one to help them.

5The hungry eat the food of his field. They take it even out of the thorns. And the thirsty want his riches.

6For suffering does not come from the dust. Trouble does not grow out of the ground.

7But man is born to trouble, as fire goes up.

8'But as for me, I would look to God. I would put my troubles before God.

9He does great things, too great for us to understand. He does too many wonderful things for us to number.

10He gives rain on the earth and sends water on the fields.

Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist- he denies the Father and the Son. 1 John 2:22

Erma had a physical exam and told her doctor she recently tried a fad diet her friend recommended. "She claimed that she lost ten pounds in one week on it and I would lose the same, too." Erma stated. Her physician was a little skeptical of the claim and asked, "Is she a nurse or a nutritionist? "Well, the diet didn't work at all," confessed Erma. "I think she's a liar!" (Dan Newhouse)

Are you being urged to experiment with spiritual fads? Don't let marvelous claims of the supernatural lead you astray from Christ. Jesus is the only way to God so stay true to the Truth. Maintain a steady diet of God's Word!

Point of Connection: Christ is all in all, in him I find a solid peace. (Henry Alline)

Job 8-10
Job 8
Bildad Talks
1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,
2'How long will you say these things, and the words of your mouth be a strong wind?

3Does God make wrong what is fair? Does the All make wrong what is right?

4If your children have sinned against Him, He has given them over to the power of their sin.

5If you will look for God and pray to the Allpowerful,

6if you are pure and right and good, for sure He will help you. Because you are right and good He will put you back where you should be.

7And even if your beginning was small, your end will be very great.

8'Ask about those who have lived before. Think about what their fathers learned.

9For we are only of yesterday and know nothing. Our days on earth are as a shadow.

Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7

A cosmetics line with cheeky taglines that extolled the virtues of "Looking Good for Jesus" was being promoted at retail stores in Singapore. Promising to "Redeem your reputation and more," the products included a "virtuous vanilla-flavored" lip balm and a "Get Tight with Christ" hand and body cream. The vanity products were quickly removed when Christians in the city began to protest. "Why would anyone use religious figures to promote vanity products? It's very disrespectful and distasteful," one young adult complained. (Associated Press)

Is your faith more than skin deep? Your inner beauty matters more to the Lord than your outward appearance. Make sure your relationship to God is not just cosmetic. You'll look a lot better to Jesus when you spend more time praying than preening.

Point of Connection: Vainglory blossoms but never bears fruit. (Unknown)

Job 11-13
Job 11
Zophar Talks
1Then Zophar the Naamathite answered,
2'Should many words go without an answer? Should a man full of talk be said to be without blame?

3Should your words of pride make men quiet? Should you make fun of truth and no one speak sharp words to you?

4For you say, 'What I believe is pure. I am without fault in Your eyes.'

5If only God would speak, and open His lips against you.

6He would show you the secrets of wisdom because there are two sides. Then you would know that God is punishing you less than you should get.

7'Can you find out the deep things of God? Can you find out how far the All can go?

8They are higher than the heavens. What can you do? They are deeper than the place of the dead. What can you know?

9They are longer than the earth and wider than the sea.

The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" Jesus replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. Matthew 8:25-26

John Wesley Powell was the first American to explore the great Colorado River. At one point of the journey, Powell's expedition faced a tremendous set of rapids. His party argued whether they should abandon their quest and walk out into uncharted and hostile territory or face their fears and plunge headlong into the rapids. Three men chose the former, while the seven remaining men continued on. To everyone's surprise the rapids only looked impassible; in a few minutes they cleared "Separation Rapid," safely and with all their provisions. The three separators were never heard from again.

The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. Deuteronomy 6:24

Phillip was a missionary's son. While playing under a tree in their African yard, he heard his father's loud voice, "Philip, obey me instantly! Fall to your knees and crawl to me as fast as you can." The boy did so immediately until he reached his father's arms. When the young boy looked back at the tree, he saw a black mamba, a poisonous snake, hanging from one of the branches. Unquestioning, instant obedience saved his life.
(Donald Grey Barnhouse)

Is the Lord calling you to obey? Make sure you respond quickly. Although you might not understand now, act in faith without questioning His wisdom. Fear the Lord and do what He says. It could be a matter of life or death!

Point of Connection: The evidence of knowing God is obeying God. (Eric Alexander)

A discerning man keeps wisdom in view, but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth. Proverbs 17:24

The average American watches 4 hours and 35 minutes of television per day. Eighty-two percent of American households have more than one television. Thirty percent of children say they watch TV in their bedroom. The average American household has a TV on for eight hours and 14 minutes, (more than a third of a day). The typical American home received 104 television channels in 2006. (Focus on the Family)

Has television been dominating your life? Maybe its time you reined in the one-eyed monster. As the summer approaches don't settle for a steady diet of re-runs. Get outside and enjoy God's creation. If you are in the house, only watch programs with solid spiritual value - like the ministry programs of TLN! Leave the idiot box to the idiots!

Fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Little Bobbie was camping with Grandpa. After a wonderful night before a roaring campfire, the child went to sleep. The next morning the little boy was sad to see only a pile of ashes where the logs burned before. "Don't look so sullen, son," Gramps replied. He brushed the covering of ashes away. Placing some dried bark near the grey coals, Gramps blew hard several times until they began to glow red and ignited the kindling. Within minutes a crackling blaze chased away Bobbie's morning chill. (Steve Klipowicz)

You show that you are a letter from Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:3

John came to Christ in prison. His cellmate remained skeptical of his jailhouse conversion. In spite of this rejection, the Christian continued to compassionately share his confidence in Christ until his death from a heart attack. At John's funeral service the chaplain gave a short eulogy. The burly cellmate interrupted the message. He simply pointed to the coffin and said, "That's the only Jesus I ever knew." (Dan Newhouse)

Is your life an open letter? Your words and actions may be the only evidence of a caring God others will ever see. Let others read the love of the Lord in you. They might want to go on to the next chapter if they do!

Point of Connection: If a man cannot be a Christian in the place where he is, he cannot be a Christian anywhere. (Henry Ward Beecher)

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. Ephesians 4:25

Professor Bella DePaulo asked college students to keep a notebook to tally up the number of lies they told in one week. By the end of the experiment, DePaulo found that the students had lied at least once to 38 percent of the people they came in contact with. Most of these were considered "white lies." "In everyday life, people are often telling lies," concluded DePaulo. "Its not to get something concrete that they want, like more money, but for psychological reasons such as improved self-image, to avoid shame or unpleasant situations." (Preaching Today)

Have you been white-washing the truth lately? Although it might be more convenient to ease back from the truth on some situations, lying is not the best way to deal with problems. Speak the truth. That's one reality show worth watching.

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.

Assuming that she was about to be fired, Marie went to the architectural office where she worked and erased $2.5 million of computer files. Afterwards Cooley sadly discovered the ad was for her employer's wife's company (same name and number). The architectural firm told the news that Cooley is no longer employed there. (FoxNews.com)

Has anger got you on the edge? Before doing something regrettable, get yourself under control. Anger distorts judgment and leaves you prone to folly. Before you act in anger, think about what you might lose if you lose it!

By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light. Exodus 13:21

Tom sensed that God was calling him to leave his secure job and start a ministry for homeless adults. Driving home he saw a billboard that said, "Let's get together and talk, signed God." "Yeah," Tom sighed, "I sure would like to hear God's voice." Absorbed in thought, Tom forgot about traffic. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12

Phyllis was really beside herself. Her son, Jimmy, was exasperating her with his misbehavior. "How can you expect to get into heaven acting like this?" Phyllis asked, playing the religion card. The boy, not hesitating, said, "Well, I think I'll just run in and out, and in and out, and in and out, and slamming the door until St. Peter at last says, 'For heaven's sake, Jimmy, come in or go out, one or the other.'" (Jokes Everyday)

What are your heavenly expectations? Don't fool yourself into thinking you will get in by your good works or St. Peter's frustrations. The only sure entrance is through faith in Jesus Christ. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior today. And don't slam the door while you are coming in!

Point of Connection: Heaven must be in thee before thou canst be in heaven.

Psalm 1
The Difference Between Good And Sinful People
1Happy is the man who does not walk in the way sinful men tell him to, or stand in the path of sinners, or sit with those who laugh at the truth.
2But he finds joy in the Law of the Lord and thinks about His Law day and night.

Honor your mother and your father which is the first commandment with a promise. Ephesians 6:2

Two children got a pet hamster named Danny. After a few months, their mother found herself doing all the clean-up chores and so, found a new home for Danny. The children took the news quite well. "He's been around a long time and we'll miss him," replied one child philosophically. "Maybe if he didn't eat so much and make messes we could keep him," chimed the other child. "Well then," prompted Mom, "Let's get his cage and bring Danny to his new home." "Not Danny!" shouted the outraged children. "We thought you said, 'Daddy'!"

When the controller told him to do exactly as he was told, Frank responded in a panic, "Hey, you aren't dealing with a seasoned pro up here!" The controller replied coolly, "No, we're not! Psalm 17
Prayer For Help In Time Of Trouble
1Hear what is right, O Lord. Listen to my cry. Hear my prayer, for it does not come from lying lips.
2May You decide in my favor. May Your eyes see what is right.

3You have tested my heart. You have visited me during the night. You have tested me and have found nothing wrong. I have decided that my mouth will not sin.

4As for the actions of men, by the word of Your lips, I have kept myself from the paths of those who want to hurt others.

5My steps have followed Your paths. My feet have not turned from them.

6I have called to You, O God, for You will answer me. Listen to me and hear my words.

7Show Your great loving. You save by Your right hand the people that come to You for help from those who hate them.

8Keep me safe as You would Your own eye. Hide me in the shadow of Your wings,

Before the 1920's almost all surgery was done with the use of a general anesthetic. The pioneering efforts of Dr. Evan O'Neil Kane changed the medical field's practice almost overnight when he accomplished the first surgery with a local pain killer. On February 15, 1921, with a team of nurses and a set of mirrors, the surgeon performed the first appendectomy using local anesthesia. To prove his point, this pioneering physician performed the operation on himself! (Paul Harvey)

In July 2007, more than 300 priests gathered in the Polish city of Czestochowa for the fourth International Congress of Exorcists. About 70 priests serve as trained exorcists in Poland, double the number of five years ago. An estimated 300 exorcists are active in Italy. Foremost among them: the Rev. Gabriele Amorth who performs exorcisms daily in Rome. "People don't pray anymore, they don't go to church, they don't go to confession. The devil has an easy time of it," Amorth said in an interview. "There's a lot more devil worship, people interested in satanic things and séances, and less in Jesus." (WashingtonPost.com)

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? Psalm 139:7

Frederick lost his sense of being close to the Lord. He made a pilgrimage to Mt. Sinai and stood on the mountainside, seeking a clear sign from God. He waited for hours on his knees and nothing happened. On the verge of giving up, Frederick looked toward the rocky ground and saw a small violet that had just come into bloom. He remembered that on the day he left, his daughter had given him a handful of violets taken from the many that grew at his door. God was as close to him as the violet and he didn't need to make a long pilgrimage to find Him. (John Wade)

Does God seem far from you? Don't let your feelings fool you. Although you may not sense Him, He is right there with you. He has promised never to leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5), so hang on to His Word. He never lies!

I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2

John and his family got home from a short vacation late one night. Early the next morning John prepared a bowl of cereal before heading to work. As he began to pour the milk he got a whiff of a sour odor. Sniffing the container, he realized that the milk had gone bad. He looked at the date on the carton. Sure enough, the expiration date had already passed.

Has life lost its zest? Maybe you are failing to get the most out of each day. Time passes quickly. Today's opportunities will expire in a few hours. Take advantage of this moment. Act today before things go sour on you!

Point of Connection: Opportunities are multiplied as they are seized. (Sun Tzu)

"In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Ephesians 4:26-27

Little Emily had a fight with her sister, Sarah. As the day passed, Emily gave her sister the silent treatment, refusing to speak to her. At bedtime, while their mother was tucking them in she asked, "Don't you think you should forgive your sister before you go to sleep? The Bible says we should not let "the sun go down on our anger." Emily thought for a moment and replied with a frown, "But how can I keep the sun from going down?" (Unknown)

Are you harboring anger towards someone? Don't hold onto your anger another night. Do what you can to bring reconciliation today. Forgive from your heart. Then sit back and enjoy the sunset!

Without hesitation the boy replied, "I am waiting for that there steamboat to pick me up." "Don't be silly, boy," replied the man. "That boat won't stop here." The youth didn't respond. Instead of throwing in the towel, Wills worked hard in the minor leagues for almost eight years before getting a chance at the big leagues.
